Miss California on Gay Marriage

carrie-prejeanI just happened to be surfing the channels on my TV last night and came across the Miss USA pageant in progress. I also happened to see Miss California come to the microphone to take a question from the judges. The question she received was from Perez Hilton who asked Carrie (Miss California) her view of same sex marriage. My first intuition was to change the channel, because California and homosexuality seems to go hand in hand, and surely this was another move by those who own the cameras to desensitize the rest of America, but I didn’t and the answer I heard was pretty surprising. Her comment was that while she had nothing against homosexuals she did believe that marriage in America should be defined as one man and one woman. Perez was obviously upset at her answer and I was so surprised that I stood there staring as if to verify that what I had actually heard was indeed what I heard.
This morning I woke up to all kinds of blog chatter about her stand and the uproar of the gay community. Carrie clarified here statement but did not back down from her position. The shame in all of this is that only 38% of Americans want gay marriage legalized and America is being fed a lie that this is the sentiment of an overwhelming majority. The move in Iowa to legalize same sex marriage was initiated by a hand full of state judges, and not the people of Iowa.
Carrie credits her faith for her stand and mentioned that this was an opportunity from God to express and prove her faith. I too, as Carrie confessed, have nothing against homosexuals as individuals but I do not approve of their lifestyle and I was refreshed and impressed to here some one stand and affirm the view of the true American majority. May God bless Carrie for her daring stand.

  1. April,

I pray that God has been blessing your family. I’m sure He is as we could see Pastor Adam maturing and developing a deep love for God and especially for His people.

Our Preacher started a Wednesday night study on personal revival last fall. I believe for this to happen we need to remove sin from our lives and become (not perfect) pure. As a man, my biggest struggle is a pure mind and I believe for many men, as well. I read as many as 80% of church attending men struggle with internet porn. I pray, that number isn’t as high in my church, but I’m sure that every man I fellowship with struggles with keeping a pure mind. I personally could not watch this program with a woman walking around in less than her underwear, high heels and with lots of make-up and jewelry; and keep my mind pure before God and my wife. The television is inundated with soft porn, we are down to PBS and dvd’s for our family. I couldn’t even check sports scores on SI.com w/o seeing all the women is so called swimsuits and even FoxNews with all the tight blouses and skirts, what’s the point in even wearing clothes, nothing is being hidden from men, when everything is skin tight, we see every form and feature? Our preacher, from the pulpit on a Sunday morning even mentioned how he respected this woman for her courage, I too, respect her courage, but I feel the shame she does not, for showing her nakeness, for causing millions of men and boys to have a wrong view of women and for decieving little girls that this is what their worth. The woman is the glory of man, the most beautiful part of God’s Creation, she should be lifted up on a pedestal and treated, as such, not paraded around as an object for men to fufill their sexual lusts and pleasure. No man watching this program would be drawn to a closer walk with their Savior nor a higher repect for a woman. God has taught me and my wife so much over the past six months in our personal study on having a pure mind. This has spilled over to not only guard against what we are watching on the televison, internet, turning my eyes quickly away from women that might make me stumble, but the importance of being faithful in family devotions. He has also shown us Biblical standards on how I should dress as man and how my wife and daughters should dress. I wish women could spend one day in the mind of a man, I gurantee is would turn the fashion industry back a 100 years.

One last thought, when I was in high school Amy Grant said she would take her shirt off and go topless on stage if it would cause someone to get saved and did the conservatives protest. Now, conservative are rallying around Carrie. God does not need Amy Grant nor Miss California taking there clothes off to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
